30 days of blessings!

In a little more then 30 days I will turn the whooping age of 30 and seriously I can’t decide if I am actually bummed out or excited. I think it’s a ridiculous mixture of both! I’ve joked that this is my version of mid life crisis (now, if you’re 60+ and reading this please don’t take that personally! :)

To commemorate the fact that I’ve survived 30 years I’m going to try what I hope will be an eye opening, life changing venture. I’m going to attempt to bless 30 different people, in 30 different ways, on 30 different days! This past year I had a friend who did something like this to mark the milestone and I loved it and made a mental note to consider the idea when my doomsday arrived.

Now, as the month approaches I kind of tossed the idea around and thought– you know, I really don’t have time for this. I’m not good at following through with commitments. I’m not creative enough. I’m overstretched constantly and this will be just another thing to add to the “to-do” list. Ironically, all of the above reasons are what fueled me to actually do this “project.”

You see, I have this tendency to get really self absorbed in my own little world. Life is busy. Two jobs, four kids, one dependent husband, and a household to keep organized and ran….plus…my own “personal issues” and lemme tell ya, it’s easy to do. I want to think of others, want to love them as Jesus does, want to be a blessing to those around me, but often find the crazy hectic schedule of life squeezes out the good in my heart so intensely that it rarely manifests into anything tangible.

So, here’s what I am going to do– and i need your help.

I’m going to bless 30 people, in 30 different ways. I’m starting today, because I need to give myself a few “spare days” for when life happens and things don’t go as planned. (yes, that will most assuredly happen!). I don’t have tons of extra time, nor do I have tons of extra money. During these 30 days I’ll be sacrificing a bit of time and money, but the amounts must be reasonable.

I won’t be writing them down or following in the blog each day (heeeeellllllllllo, do not want this to turn into a prideful brag fest!) but if something really remarkable, memorable happens– I may share. I will also update at the end of the project to share how cool it was (or perhaps how hard it was!)

Please, if you have any ideas, comment below or on FB. My only rules are: no repeats of people or blessing project! That means I need help with some practical ideas that aren’t expensive, and won’t take extensive amounts of time! I’ve got a list of ppl: teachers, mailman, friends, strangers, homeless, clerk at store, etc…and a few ideas to get started but need your help with more! I’m excited to see what God will do in my heart as I make extensive efforts to practice focusing better on loving Him and others!

Write a letter to someone who has had an influence on your life. No emails to text message. Just an old fashion letter letting them know you appreciate them.

Make someone/ family a meal… could be a mom whose life is as busy as yours. Or some old lady in the neighborhood.. make a little extra when you cook for your family and take it to them.

I hate to be selfish, but could you mention or read/review my book “Craving the World” on your blog? As an independent author I need all the help I can get to market my Christian Fiction book!

When you bake cookies, put three in a zip lock baggie and leave them for the mailman. Shocks the socks off him. S.
